Who am I? Hmm… a hard question to answer to a stranger, it seems. After all, are we not constantly asking ourselves the same question? Are we not constantly changing and evolving as individuals? I certainly hope so. In any case, I'll try to give you an idea of who I am and what this site is all about.

I'm a 29 year old male living in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. I'm slogging my way part time through school, desperately crawling towards finishing my Bachelor of Music degree at UBC. I'm a composer, and I've also been known to sing and play trombone. Right now I'm working an IT Manager and EDGAR filing agent (see this page for an explanation of what that is precisely). My hobbies, interests and pastimes can easily be summed up with a simple statement: I am a geek.

What is a geek? The dictionary definition is defined in the gloss at the top of this page. However, in modern society, "geek" has come to represent a subclass of alternative culture. Star Trek, Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, X-Files and sci-fi/fantasy genres in general are seen as "geeky", and their fan bases generally incorporate the same kind of people at their core: the aforementioned "geeks".

When did I become a geek? Frankly, I think I was born a geek. My sister was using the Fisher Price kitchen set to play house with. In my world, it was a giant computer/machine capable of teleportation or massive destruction. While the neighbors' kids were pretending to be cowboys or GI-Joe, I was a cyborg or a wizard. They had toy shotguns, I had Lego. When I was around 10 or 11 I started watching Star Trek: the Next Generation. There was no turning back from that point.

Consequently, high school was tough for me. I found myself either being picked on or (when I was lucky) making a vain attempt to fit in with the popular kids. Eventually though, I was lucky enough to find people who shared my interests. Some of those people have become my closest, long-term friends. They are my "geek-brethren".

This web site was created because I needed a place to put my thoughts and my digital creations: a place to express myself. I needed a place where the thoughts and creations of my friends might also be expressed. There is but one thing that ties all of these ideas together: geekiness.

I am the Geekman, and this is my world.
