« BSG: Will I be right? We shall see... | AHEM » 01-04-09 It's 8:40PM and I'm in bed. This doesn't feel very odd at all to me for two very important reasons. First, I'm sick and feeling slightly less miserable in my warm comfy bed. Second, it's already been dark outside for four hours. This winter in Vancouver has given a whole new meaning to the term "White Oppression". We've been assaulted for several weeks now by nearly continuous blankets of snow. Just when one blanket melts enough to give us hope that things will be getting back to normal, another dump of snow shows up to remind us who the boss is. Besides utterly exhausting us by forcing us to constantly shovel our walks and parking spaces before we can actually go anywhere, the amount of snow adds an additional annoyance: we're simply running out of places to PUT the damn stuff. And if that weren't enough, I have learned the unpleasant lesson that we can't rely on the City of Vancouver at all to help us out. They've barely plowed our street on a bi-weekly basis since the start of all this great-white-winter, leaving our street a snow-filled skating rink that's nearly impossible to navigate. If that weren't insult enough, they've also decided if the streets aren't plowed, they can't be bothered to come pick up our trash either. We're running out of places to put THAT, too. I can't wait for spring. Posted on January 4, 2009 08:37 PM Comments: awww :( Hey, why make plans for snow? It doesn't snow in Vancouver remember? Maybe if we blink it will all just go away unlike in other Canadian cities. You chould consider yourself lucky that you get any plowing at all. my street still has all the snow on it since the very first day of snow, we haven't seen a single plow truck down here. There's been no garbage pickup and now to add insult to injury, our local mail carrier has determined our street to difficult/dangerous to deliver mail down, so I have to go out to the nearest post office to retrieve my own mail. I'm lucky to get my car out of my driveway most days even tho I shovel it every day, because the street still has almost 2 feet of snow on it. I'm considerably p/o'd. Posted on January 6, 2009 02:20 PMI'm trying not very hard to contain a " awwww muuuffin". some poor place in New Brunswick had 57cm fall in 18hrs last week. and nothings been plowed here in Canmore either, mind you they do dump a bunch of pea gravel to give the pack some grit but whatever. And it's was -37 for a little over 3 weeks in December. It hasn't snowed like that in Vancouver since I was in grade 5 so would city officials plan for it?? The GVRD is already in debt and you think they should pay crews who make 40$/hr already overtime to work around the clock so you don't have to go to Canadian tire and get snow tires and chains? Now we know what the rest of the country goes through every year. Posted on January 7, 2009 09:26 PM |
