Kristofer Straub of Starslip Crisis posted this video of a commentary by Keith Olbermann on this blog today that you ALL NEED TO WATCH (for further reference here's the blog comment I left in response).

I won't say much because I think the video speaks for itself. I've occasionally gotten into debates with people about why America's civil policies are important to Canadians. Succinctly, I feel that when the United States does something this drastic, and we have in Canada a government that not only blindly supports Bush's initiatives, but also idolizes America and wishes to do things more like America, then we have a situation that is dangerous to Canadian citizens.

I'll end by quoting Kris: "Get us out of this Inner Party nightmare".

Did you see Doonesbury this week? They're interviewing FEAR ITSELF and he's boasting how he created the fear of 9/11 when way more people die from guns every year than died at 9/11.

Just to clarify, this is late cable TV. The comment that Dave Willis (the artist for Shortpacked) left on Kris' blog was "You might as well place him in a shack in Siberia."

When I talked to Iain about it, we agreed that the only way to raise a buzz about this would be if people took the YouTube link and e-mailed/posted it far and wide.

We are entering this trend where the society is so big and complex that people don't want to have to think about civics anymore, or educate themselves about the issues. They want someone else to think for them. That's the end of democracy. You can't let the government give itself sweeping powers and then say "Lisa, I think we can trust the government to use their powers responsibly."

Well here's a tip:

NO. YOU CAN'T.

That's why we have democracy. It seems that people will only again learn to treasure their freedoms once they've been brutally repressed for an age. I hope that's not the case.

Who hates our freedom?

Chris Dixon

I don't hate my freedom. I try not to hate anything, cause it's hate and fear and aggression that got this whole mess started. The Dark side are these. When we are at peace, calm ... sorry went a little jedi there for a minute.
