« No, I'M Batman | Dancing, Singing Captain » 06-11-06 Camping at Allouette Lake was nice. The weather was cooperative and it was nice to see everyone again in one place. Fire, smores, air mattresses, Mad-Libs, smoke inhalation. Sarah, thank you for letting us borrow your tent. A deal is a deal. ;-) I have a soft spot for pop music. Despite all my disgust for easily-consumable culture, I still have an appreciation for a simple and tuneful song. This owed at least somewhat to the fact that I don't listen to the radio (with the exception of CBC-2), and by the time a hit song enters my consciousness everyone else is already sick-to-fucking-death of it. It's a guilty pleasure, so to speak. But I really don't feel too guilty about it; I'm aware of what it is that I'm consuming culturally at any given time. I listen to plenty more decent stuff and don't go around lauding pop as "art". Time to haul out and polish up some of my own pop-sicles. Posted on June 11, 2006 06:41 PM Comments: More about conspiracy theories...The word is out that An Inconvenient Truth is the movie to see because it lays out very logically and simply how the oil industry has hoowinked the public to believe that there is no such thing as global warming and no alternative to gas guzzling vehicles. Go and see the movie and make up your own mind. I'm convinced. Posted on June 12, 2006 08:34 AMso pop is not art... except when it's "pop art". Then it's art and pop and poppy art and oh so satirical. Except when pop is not art. Then we shall snub our noses at it. Oh Andy... Posted on June 16, 2006 10:44 PM |
